Record of Joseph Leigh Hunter’s marrying Jane Johnston nee Kerr

Joseph Leigh Hunter’s marriage certificate above shows his father to be Leigh Hunter, Coal Miner (deceased) and his mother to be Kate Walton. This is the first official record that Jane and Ian could find for their great grandfather. The wedding took place on 28 October 1898 at Tradeston, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

The 1901 census states that Joseph Hunter was born in England circa 1868

William Hunter does not have any relation to the family he is living with. When we looked closer at this record, we found they listed William as a lodger, who worked as a barman.

David, Charles, Robina and Agnes were Jane Johnston’s nee Kerr children from her first marriage. 7-month-old Thomas was Jane and Ian’s paternal grandfather.

Joseph Leigh Hunter’s death certificate states that he died 2 August, 1948, in Bathgate, West Lothian, Scotland. The death certificate states that he was a retired coal miner. His father and mother are listed again as Leigh Hunter and Kate Walton.

No records of birth could be found anywhere for Joseph Leigh Hunter or Leigh Hunter.
