By mid February 2019, Ian still hadn’t made any progress with either Leigh or Joseph Leigh Hunter. He decided that another DNA test might possibly help. 23andMe is similar to Ancestry in the fact that you can’t upload a DNA test from elsewhere. Ian made the decision to order a 23andMe DNA test.
Ian did the test and sent it off, tracking it all the way to where it would be processed.
Mid March 2019, Ian received an email from 23andMe telling him his results were available online. What Ian learned from this test initially was:
- Paternal Haplogroup – R-P311
- Maternal Haplogroup – H34 (more on this in a later post)
- Neanderthal DNA than 58% of other 23andMe customers
Ian sent out lots of messages in the hope that someone might be able to help with his brick wall. At this point, Ian had no DNA relatives at 23andMe closer than a 3rd cousin and nobody that appeared to be on the right family line to smash the brick wall.
