By the middle of November 2018, Ian still hadn’t had any luck on his paternal line. After looking into what other tests might be available, he purchased a Y-DNA from FamilyTreeDNA. Ian ordered the Y-DNA12 test as he didn’t want to spend much money, as no progress had been made on his paternal line. Ian also uploaded his Ancestry DNA test to FTDNA, paying to unlock it, to enable searches, etc. This was in the hope that perhaps the “right” person had already tested at FamilyTreeDNA (FTDNA).
Whilst Ian waited for the results of the Y-DNA12 test, he realised that this test would prove to be too broad to identify Y-DNA relatives. Ian decided to upgrade the test to the Y-DNA37 test, more expense.
The results of the Y-DNA37 test finally arrived on the 5th January 2019, unfortunately the matches were too far back in time to be meaningful, though Ian did find out that his Y-DNA Haplogroup is R-M269, again too broad to be of much use.
By this point, Ian was losing hope of ever solving the family mystery. Ian was still looking at autosomal matches, trying to work out how they connected him.
