As the MoneySavingExpert, Martin Lewis suggests, it is time to ditch any fixed contract services you pay for mobile telephone, internet and packaged TV. You could save yourself quite a bit of money each month.

We switched away from VirginMedia to an all Pay As You Go (PAYG) solution, and you will probably have to spend a little upfront to gain this freedom, though the money savings recover the initial outlay quickly.

Don’t be afraid to look at suppliers you may never have heard of, such as SMARTY. Below is a screen grab, showing the package we use:

SMARTY Unlimited Data for £20 per month

SMARTY utilises the “Hutchison 3G UK” network, so you will get a decent signal in most places in the UK. The package we are on includes access to 5G, though we are quite happy with the 4G equipment we use.

If you click this link, we could both get the choice of a £10 gift card from Amazon.co.uk, John Lewis or Uber.

We also use VOXI which sits on the Vodafone network, again this is a PAYG service, so you can alter the “package” every month, skipping some time if money is really tight.

If you don’t fancy SMARTY, how about VOXI on the VodaFone network, click this link and sign up to VOXI, after 2 months of payments you can claim a £20 voucher from VOXI to use at Amazon.co.uk, Just Eat or PayPal. Being open and honest, we will also benefit with the same reward.

With the purchase of a streaming device from the likes of Roku, Amazon, Apple or Chromecast, you remove the need for a device from VirginMedia or SKY. This allows you to take control of the content you want, effectively creating your own media packages. Nearly all the streaming services in the UK offer PAYG services, so you can change your content providers on a monthly basis.

We are very happy getting away from fixed monthly financial commitments. You don’t have much to lose, but could save yourself a packet.
