A very useful tool at MyHeritage is the Export shared DNA segment info for people you share DNA with, as shown in the screenshot below, click on the 3 dots to the right of the magnifying glass/search tool, to show the menu.

The ability to export shared DNA segment info for all DNA Matches

The Post behind this hypherlink shows to get Segment data from people that share DNA with you on the 23andMe website, a lot of other DNA websites also provide a way of getting this information, the exception being Ancestry.com and it’s country specific websites.

When you click the “Export shared DNA segment info for all DNA Matches” button, you will be sent an email, this will contain details similar to below, there will be an attachment .zip file.

Download the .ZIP file and then open it, it will contain a .CSV (comma separated values) file similar to the following, please note these instructions are for Windows, though you should be able to do similar on other operating systems.

Drag the .CSV file out of the .ZIP so that you can use “Open with” function or equivalent, I use OpenOffice Calc as it a free alternative to Microsoft Excel, when you open the file you will something similar to the following, just click OK

When the .CSV file has been imported you will have something similar shown, please note I have hidden the first 3 columns, as these contain data I don’t wish to share, but you can see the Chromosome and start and end of the segment data.

Instructions to be continued….
