Ian found the need to create a backup / test web server, whilst he was making some minor changes to this website, there was a problem that necessitated a partial rebuild and restore of it. So rather than go through that again, he made the decision to have a spare to ‘tinker’ with, so we will detail the hardware used and reasons. The addition of a second web server meant that a reverse proxy would be required. We posted about this here.

Hardware used in backup server

Raspberry Pi 4 Model B 2Gb£ 43.50
Official UK Raspberry Pi 4 Power Supply (5.1V 3A)£ 7.50
SanDisk Extreme 64 GB microSDXC A2 Performance Class 10, U3, V30£ 14.00
Geekworm Raspberry Pi 4 Case, Pi 4 Heatsink Case£ 12.99
Powered USB Hub, atolla USB Hub with 4 USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Data Ports £ 20.99
Samsung 980 500 GB PCIe 3.0 NVMe M.2 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) £ 55.50
SSK Aluminum M.2 NVME SSD Enclosure Adapter, USB 3.1/3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) £ 18.70

Normally, Ian would have gone for a 2.5 inch SSD, though he wanted to try out a NVMe M.2 device, so he chose the above Samsung device, if he had decided to go the 2.5 inch SSD route it would have been a comparable price for 500 Gb of storage.
