4K Fire Sticks are great. We’re very pleased with them. It’s great, but sometimes there’s a problem with connectivity, probably more related to Wi-Fi. As a result, Ian decided to hard-wire the Fire Sticks directly into the house’s Gigabit network.
The Fire Sticks connection to power, and the world is via a single micro USB port. Amazon has their own solution to connect the sticks to ethernet, though these are limited to 100 Mbps.
This solution consists of a USB to Ethernet adapter and Micro USB OTG Adapter Cable. The most important thing is the USB chipset. We found the best to be AX88179A. Below are examples of the two items we purchased:
The USB adapter we chose is a USB 3.0 device, so is capable of 1 Gbps, though the Fire Stick is limited to USB 2.0, so they limited the maximum data throughput to 480 Mbps. This route is slightly more expensive than Amazon’s offering, though you are purchasing a bit of future proofing in the ethernet adapter.
In your router settings and on the Fire Stick, you should assign static IP addresses.
