Jane ordered an Ancestry DNA test for her father, this will prove to be very useful as it puts us a generation closer
Getting an earlier generation to test is exceptionally useful because it is normal for the shared DNA to get “watered” down through generations. Though this is not always true, though it is expected that someone will inherit approx. 25% of their DNA from each grandparent, though this is just a rule of thumb, in general the actual percentages will vary.
As Jane, her father Joseph and Ian have all done DNA tests at Ancestry, just how much DNA do we share with each other:
Jane shares 50% with her father Joseph
Jane shares 12% with her first cousin Ian
Ian shares 22% with his uncle Joseph
Joseph’s DNA test results bring us one step closer to solving our mystery.
