Robert, the younger son of Thomas and Jessie Forrest Hunter nee McCallum, was born 12th August, 1939, in Bathgate, Scotland.

His father informed Ian, that as a child he had attended Bathgate Academy. At age 17 he enter the R.A.F. ( Royal Air Force )
